Value of fitness Exercise plays an important role in preventing cardiovascular heart disease and other age-related debilitating conditions while contributing to the quality of life. Because our bodies are so adaptive, the less we do means the less we are capable of doing. People with low fitness levels can suffer adverse effects to their heart and lung efficiency, blood pressure, body fat, flexibility and mobility, bone density and strength. Exercising has been shown to help with many common medical problems, including hypertension, high cholesterol, osteoporosis, diabetes, low back pain, anxiety and depression. Value of weight loss Recent studies suggest that over half the UK population is over-weight or obese. Being over-weight is not just a cosmetic problem but can have implications for your health. Over-weight people are more likely to suffer from hypertension, high cholesterol, heart disease, strokes, diabetes, gallstones and even some forms of cancer (colon, breast and prostate).
